This story of a lost dog is one that many don’t ever consider, but is all too familiar in the lost & found pet community.
Many pets go missing after a traffic accident which adds one tragedy on another. This type of incident reinforces why it is ALWAYS vital to have your pet identified with a collar/tags and to be microchipped as a permanent ID.
Bambi’s Story
Celissa’s day in San Antonio, Texas started out like many others, including two year old Bambi accompanying her in the car as she ran errands. After all, Bambi is one very cherished and admittedly pampered pooch, right down to her polished nails!
That was until late morning when their vehicle was suddenly t-boned, resulting in it flipping over! In the confusion and damage, Bambi was able to scuttle out of the vehicle, clad in her bright green collar.
Even before the emergency vehicles left, Celissa had started her “search” for Bambi by sharing the accident and Bambi’s escape with her neighborhood community on “Next Door”.
Friends and strangers alike went into action keeping their eyes out for Bambi, as well as actively going out to look for her and to post flyers.
During the process of looking, Bambi was spotted running and taking cover in a thick bush right off the roadway. A friend’s son acted quickly yet cautiously to make his way to where Bambi had taken cover. Perhaps feeling safe and secure tucked into the bush, the young man was successful in getting ahold of Bambi and scooped her up to safety.
- A pet can go missing in an instant and unexpectedly!
- When a pet goes missing acting quickly is vital. Be sure first steps include posting of flyers, posting on lost/found pet sites (be sure HeLPingLostPets.com is among the first as it offers a free poster and will add it on a national map-based free registry) Other resources are available on Lost Dogs of America’s website!
- If your pet is microchipped, call the microchip company to let them know the pet is missing so they can flag it.
- Get volunteers lined up to assist you to search.
- Every missing/lost pet reunited with their owner is one less intake statistic at a shelter!
- If you find a stray pet, remember to do your due diligence to help find the owner!
